Background Information
Personality: Hyper, empassioned, once naive and optimistic but now somewhat embittered and jaded. Very moral, though. And very sarcastic.
History: Daniel's parents, archaelogists themselves, died when he was just a boy, in a freak accident; his grandfather, Nick (who was likewise an archaeologist), passed on the chance to adopt him, relegating him to spend his life in foster care until he went to college at age 16. There, he studied both archaeology and lingustics, becoming a master of 23 languages. He became something of a laughingstock in his field, though, after insisting that the pyramid-builders were actually aliens.

When he was in his mid-twenties, Dr Catherine Langford sought him out, believing his theory; without telling him what he was working on, she had him look at some ancient glyphs on a strange, arch-like monument. He figured out that the glyphs weren't actually letters, but constellations -- and further, that those glyphs were intended to map a point in space, for use with the arch, which was an "Astria Porta". Little did he know that Catherine and the government already knew the arch was a Stargate, and were just looking for the key to figuring out how the coordinates worked. They used the one 'Gate address they'd found and sent an away team, which included Daniel and one Col Jack O'Neill, through to a planet that became known to them as Abydos.

There, Daniel and Jack came across a less-advanced settlement of humans -- as well as their "god", Ra, a human with a parasite in his brain and a sarcophagous that granted him an extremely-prolonged life. They fought against Ra and destroyed his ship, freeing the people of Abydos. In order to make sure no similar beings could invade Earth, Daniel stayed behind and buried the Stargate, while Jack and their surviving teammates returned to Earth. Daniel married one of the Abydosians, Sha're.

A year later, Earth was visited by Ra's rival, Apophis. It was a hostile visit, resulting in several deaths and a kidnapping, prompting the reopening of the Stargate program. Jack was called in, and eventuiually admitted the truth, that he did not nuke Abydos. He was allowed to send a kleenex box through; it was returned by Daniel with a message to "send more". Jack's team, which now included astrophycicist Captain Samantha Carter amongst the surviving original members, was sent to Abydos again to investigate. Not long after their arrvival, soldiers of Apophis followed suite, capturing a multitude of Abydosians, including Sha're and her brother Skaara. Daniel returned to Earth with Jack, intent on helping to find Apophis so he could save his wife and brother-in-law.

Back on Earth, Carter, disbelieving at first, confirmed Daniel's theory that the 'Gate went to other worlds besides Abydos, and made the necessary adjustments to their equipments to account for the drifting of stars and planets. They had the address Aphophis went to from the Abydos gate, and followed suit. They were quickly captured, but were later helped to escape by the man who helped imprison them, Teal'c of the Jaffa, First Prime of Apophis. They failed in their mission, but teal'c went back with them, to offer vauluable intel on the Goa'uld, intent on freeing his people from enslavement.

Jack, Daniel, Sam, and Teal'c became the team SG-1; together, they travelled through the Stargate, looking for allies and weapons to use against the Goa'uld. Sha're, who had been made a host to the goa'uld who was wife to Apophis, ws killed by Teal'c in order to save Daniel. Skaara was eventually freed, only to later be nearly killed and forced to ascend to a higher plane of existence. Daniel, too, ascended -- twice, and he returned to human from both times. Eventually, the Go'auld were defeated; Jack moved on to other things before that happened, while the rest of the team parted ways after. The seperation didn't last long, though, as a certain Lt Col Cameron Mitchell was determined to "get the band back together".

Daniel met space pirate Vala Mal Doran when she attempted to steal the Earth vessel Prometheus; he turned the tables on her and reclaimed the ship, but she escaped. Later, she came to visit Daniel at the SGC, claiming to have a leade on the whereabouts of an Ancient treasure. In order to force him to use his Ancient knowledge to help her retrieve it, she placed a pair of Kor'Mac bracelets (a sort of Jaffa handcuff set) on them both, which "tied" them together invisibl; if they got too far apart, they got very ill. They did indeed find the treasure, but she wasn't allowed to keep any. Instead, they came back to the SGC with a communication device that, when they activated it with a pair of stones, sent Vala and Daniel's consciousnesses to another galaxy. There, they nearly died and inadventently alerted a malevolent Ascended race, the Ori, to the presence of humancs in the Milky Way galaxy.

The Ori decided to come over and force those humans to become their followers, an act which psychically increased the Ori's power. SG-1 reformed, with Mitchell in command and Jack still in Washington. Vala aided Daniel and the SGC in finding a way to stop the Ori (being a pain in the ass along the way), at least until she risked her life to destrpy an Ori "Supergate". This act led to her being trapped in the Ori galaxy, where she was miraculously impregnated. Eventually she found a way to contact the SGC, using a similar device as before and talking through Daniel, warning them about the armada the Ori were building.

A short while later, she gave birth to Adria, the Orici, a human with Ori-like powers. Adria was already half-grown when Daniel managed to beam onto the ship where Vala was being kept and rescue the space pirate, leaving Adria behind. The Ori began spreading their false religion throughout the Milky Way galaxy, killing entire populatins of planets that wouldn't bow to their new gods. With Daniel vouching for her, Vala stayed with SG-1, eventually becoming a fully-fleged member of the team. After a long hunt, they found a device that was able to destroy the Ori; Dsniel ended up having to download thememories of Merlin into his mind to make it, temporarily gaining the man's powers. He was then captured by Adria, and tricked her into thinking he'd willingly become a Prior, thus successfully using the device with her own aid to kill the Ori. They still had the Ori's human followers to contend with though, and not long after, Adria then ascended, taking all of dead gods' power. SG-1 then looked for another device, the Ark of Truth, which freed their followers from Adria's hold. A battle with Morgan LeFey then led the significantly-less-powerful Adria to leave this plane of existence.

The relationship between Daniel and Vala has been a tumultus one, with Daniel softening considerably towards her over time but balking at any suggestion of any sort of romantic/sexual interaction between them. Even so, when the two were trapped in a time-dilation bubble, they ended up together; although times was reversed, thus erasing the event; perhaps they might again.
